Volunteer Opportunities


An effective genealogical community is centred on doing things for each other. Our network of members, as volunteers, are the lifeline of our Branch. When you give your time, talents, and effort, you make a difference. Whether you have a few extra hours a month or more time to share. We have a volunteer opportunity for you!

Volunteers are needed to fill the following positions

Volunteer Positions

Library Volunteers

AGS Edmonton Library Volunteers

New volunteers will be given orientation and training. Library volunteers work once a month for a five hour shift, 10 am to 3 pm, but may work an additional shift if another opening is available.

Principal responsibilities include:

  • opening and closing the Library for their shift

  • greeting and welcoming users of the Library

  • assisting users with their research, if they need help

  • checking books out, checking in and re-shelving books and periodicals

Tracing Your Family Tree Presenters

Tracing Your Family Tree Presenters

We are looking for family tree researchers who are willing to share their expertise with others!

Through in-branch and online webinars, the Edmonton Branch manages a calendar of educational courses to help genealogists improve their skills, find new resources and implement new strategies in their research.

Special Interest Group (SIG) Leader

Special Interest Group (SIG) Leader

Edmonton Branch hosts and encourages the formation of Special Interest Groups. These groups meet to focus on their specific area of genealogical interest.

Duties of the SIG Leader include:

  • Setting meeting agendas to cover topics of interest of the group

  • Share information by presenting, encouraging members to present or bringing in engaging speakers to present to the group

  • Setting up meetings and sharing information on the topic of the next meeting with the webmaster, Facebook coordinator for promotion

We are seeking leaders to lead the Canada USA, Scotland, Postscripts and Ukraine SIGs.
