Bedford Hall, Pincher Station, 1909

I am doing a family history of my father, John Edmond Johnston, who came to Canada from England as a youth of 18-19 years old.My father was born in 1889 so this would be in 1907-1909. John lived in the southern part of Alberta until 1915 when he went back to England to join the Royal Navy. I have post cards dated 1908 and mailed from England and addressed to John E Johnston, Bedford Hall, Pincher Station. I have searched extensively and cannot come up with information on Pincher Station in the early 1900's. John would most likely have worked on a ranch. I would be happy if anyone could inform me of where to read history of this time and/or information on Bedford Hall. Thanking you Edith m Johnston

Zoe Fox, Mount Royal, Calgary, Alberta, 1960's to 1970's

I was a close friend of Zoe Fox whom I believe died in Hawaii in the mid to late '70's. Her parents lived in Mont Royal, Calgary. Zoe and I went to Western together. She had a sister and brother - I believe her brother worked at the jail in Ponoka. Zoe's father was a member of the Cattleman's Association. He had been a successful banker. In the early 1970's he died and I believe Zoe's mother eventually remarried. Does anyone know anything more about this family?

Thanks,

Vona

Sprucecliff Home for Unwed Mothers, Calgary, Alberta,1969

In 1969 I was 16. I was placed and lived in the Sprucecliff Home from late August, 1969 to mid-February, 1970. Sprucecliff was located at 3410 Spruce Drive, Calgary, SW.

I am wondering if anyone lived there or knows what happened to any of the girls who lived there. In addition, there was a staff member, I believe her name was Pat Neville, who was very good to me. I heard years later that she married and moved to Rocky Mountain House. I wonder if anyone knows what happened to her or if she is still alive. In addition, there was a nurse, Mrs. Cox and the obstetrician, Dr. Fish who worked there and I would like to know what became of them.

I am most interested in finding out what happened to the girls who were placed there. I am a psychiatrist now, living in British Columbia and considering writing an article on Sprucecliff for a medical journal.

Thanks,

Dr. Vona Priest
