St. John, Royal R., EDMONTON, Klondike Gold Rush – listed in 1900 census Minnesota, 1901 census Edmonton with family. Most popular family story is he disappeared during gold rush sometime after 1901, last seen on a river. Other version is he died on Fraser River building railroad. Is there any way I can get info on any death notice that may have been posted. Digital site for Edmonton Bulletin does not go back far enough. Would there have had to be some kind of legal notice or something for his wife (Myrtle) to remarry? All I know is that sometime after 1901 he disappeared (probably after 1902, when he had child born).

BEULAH HOME @1950/51 My name is William Randal McCormick. My mother, Nathella Bernice McCormick nee Harrison,in either Fenn or Stettler, Alberta February 25, 1928. I am a son of Nathella Bernice Harrison and William Perry McCormick. Following my parents divorce my mother became pregnant and birthed a daughter at the Beulah Home in Edmonton, Alberta. This may have been 1951, spring. She may have called her baby Esther. After the birth my mother married Orville Slaght, of Edmonton, Alberta. I have an article from an Edmonton newspaper showing a picture of babies for adoption from the Beulah home. I suspect my grandmother saved it. As a half-brother,I, as well as other members of our family would be interested in making contact with the sister we never knew. If you read this and prefer not to make a connection, please know that we think of you fifty years later, we miss you and love you.

Ouellet/Ouellette family, from Quebec (?) arriving in St. Paul area, between 1889-1908. Looking for info re: my grandfather, Romuald Ouellet(te) who we believe was born somewhere in the Province of Quebec either 1889 or 1890. Romuald was part of a very large family (23 children, more than 18 survived infancy). His father’s name may have been Henri (or Honore?) and had a homestead near a lake in the St. Paul area prior to 1910. Romuald married my grandmother, Codelia Poulin from Vegerville, early 1920s. I found one Romouald Ouellette who had made a land claim (NE 20-57-8-w4), however, I do not know exactly where this land is located (where is township #57?). My grandfather died in a work-related accident in Edmonton in the early 1940s (1942?)- he fell several stories when a scaffolding collapsed. My father, Romuald and Cordelia’s son, Dollard Joseph Ouellet (b. 1928 in Edmonton) was a young teen at the time of his father’s death and knows little about Romuald’s side of the family. I’m interested to know if they were among the Metis families that settled in the St. Paul area or if they were among the French-Canadian claim jumpers? My grandfather is said to have once trained to become a missionary and is said to have spoken fluent Cree. I believe that his mother (my great grandmother) was either a Cree woman or Metis. The only (grainy) photo we have of her seems to suggest such ethnic features. Searches via the internet have proven frustrating, yielding only the land claim. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thankyou in Advance, Louise (Ouellet) Marleau.

I am looking for information on my grandfather, Albert Edward Clifton, who I believe worked on a farm(s) in Alberta. He was born c.1886 in England and may either have stowed away on a boat to Canada or was a British Home Child. He may be on the 1891 Canadian census but so far I do not have access to it here in Australia. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for any relatives by the name of Anderton. My paternal great granfather was apparently George Thomas Nylor Anderton. He served with the North West Mounted Police in the latter parts of the 1800’s, I bwelieve he nmay have left the service in the mid 1870’s. He opened a photography business in Maple Creek, Cypress Hills, and Fort Macleod at different times. He had a brother by the name of john who ran his photo business after his return to Fort Macleod where he then opened up a bathhouse and bar. Some twell me it was Aderton the photographer in Cardston Alberta that is our great grandfather. I think not. I remember my grandmother saying it was Anderton. If you have any info that would help me i would appreciate it. Photos would also be great. Thank you. I’m sorry i can’t help on the names that you listed but perhaps my info will give you some other leads. thank-you.

Snider, Edmonton 1885 My husband’s great grandmother was Mary Jane Robinson, one of 9 children born in Toronto to Isaac Robinson and Ruth Walker, between 1833 and 1854. I recently came across a biography of Isaac that stated that his oldest surviving daughter, Margaret Robinson, born about 1833 was married to an “E. Snider” and residing in Edmonton in 1885. This pair would likely have married in Toronto about 1855 or so. Looking for Snider descendents who can fill in the gaps – would love to know the names of the Snider/Robinson children. Margaret’s siblings include Mary Ann, Mary Jane, Sarah Ann, Elizabeth Ruth, Edgerton W., Hanna L., and Ellen Amelia. Any Sniders out there who can help me?? Mary G.

Looking for information on Alfred E.Jackson and his wife Elsie A. They are listed in the 1901 Census as living in Edmonton-E and their ages are 40 & 39 respectively. Alferd E.Jackson was a partner of Del Grierson and they were the builders and owners of the Alberta Hotel in the late 1890’s and early 1900. They then sold to John McDougal and Partners and later it was sold to the Lucas Family. Alfred E Jackson was married to Elsie A. Cameron, my Grandmothers sister, and I would like to find out where they moved to after the sale of the Alberta Hotel. I have looked in the Alberta Archives and have found info on the Hotel but have been unable to find where they moved to after the sale. Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.

CORMIER – EDMONTON, RURAL ALBERTA – 1928 – 1962 I am posting for a friend with no email access. She was born 9 April 1947 in Edmonton and given up for adoption at birth. Non identifying information is her mother (19) was a Cormier, housekeeper/waitress from a rural background and her father (40) was a truck driver. The relationship between the parents was long term. She has been reunited with a sister who was born in 1951. Two subsquent daughters were kept, a daughter remained in care (intellectually challenged) and a brother born in 1962 was relinqushed for adoption. My friend would dearly like to reunit with her other siblings and her mother. Apparently the father was married and the parents planned to marry after a divorce was obtained. There is no evidence this indeed happened. The two ‘Baby Girl Cormiers’ would like to discover their roots.

ARREST RECORDS FOR SMUGGLING BETWEEN US AND CANADAWhere could I locate N.W.M.P. records showing arrests for ‘Rum Running’ in the late 1980’s, early 1900’s? Found this information concerning my grt grandfather: “he went rum running from Fort Benton into Canada, till finally the Mounted Police caught him in the late 80’s or 90’s, and sent him to the Penitentiary for a term” The problem here is I don’t know what penitentiary this would have been. If it was the Mounted Police that caught him, I would think it would have been a Canadian jail. To add to the confusion, the information I found reguarding this event goes on to say that his ‘wife’, (with their young son) then left him in Fort Benton and made her way to Havre, MT. This makes it appear that he was perhaps put in an American jail. As their son was born in 1890, and his ‘wife’ remarried 1893/4 in Havre, I would date his arrest after 1890 and before 1893. Anyone have any idea at all where I can go with what I have?? Thanks Penny Deib
