BARNETT. I am looking for my fathers brothers and sisters. Our family does not have a lot of details. The children would all share the same father NELLES WARNER BARNETT, 1903-1974. One childs name is ALLAN (ALLEN) BARNETT son of SADIE born in WAINWRIGHT ALBERTA. Sadie died not long after the birth of Allen. There is also a son named DOUG BARNETT born in possibly TORONTO to NELLES AND EDNA. She was app. 16 at the time. There is also a son named MELVIN, but I nothing of this child other than his name. I have found a couple of the other sibblings, but they have since past on. Some if not all of these siblings may have spent some time in a home (orphanage) in Vancouver or New Westminster in the 1940-1950’s. These children would now be in the age range of 55+. There are also other children out there from different unions, but my father was unable to get anymore information before his father NELLES WARNER BARNETT died. NELSON & HOWSE, NORTH BANKS, late 1800s to mid-1900s – Henry Nelson immigrated from Sweden. He married Elizabeth Ann Howse, who had an illegitimate baby Harry, who took the surname of Nelson. Elizabeth Ann Howse was born at Portage a La Prairie, Manitoba. I do not know when they came to Alberta or the date of the marriage or when either of them died at Alberta. My Grandmother, Sybil Nelson was born in 1903 at North Bank, AB. Henry Nelson was the operator of the ferry across the N. Saskatchewan River there. I know that they stayed in that area into the 1920s and maybe longer. There were many children and several of the children died. My unconfirmed list of children, which I have no information on except the birthdate of my Grandmother are: Harry Howse or Nelson, Arther Nelson, who may have died as a baby, Marie Nelson, who may have died as a baby, Jane Nelson, who may have died as a baby, Sybil Nelson, born April 27, 1903 and died September 10, 1993, Rose Nelson , who died around the age of 16 years, Margaret Nelson, Florence Nelson, Dan Nelson and John Nelson who died around one year of age. DAKIN / DRIVER, Edmonton, early 1900s My grandmother Lilly or Lily DAKIN b 1890 at Bolehill, Derby, England to John DAKIN and Millicent OXSPRING. ( I think I will tackle OXSPRING at another time, what a unique name that is). I think she move to Edmonton Alberta between 1905 and 1914. She could have married William Joseph DRIVER b 12 June 1890, Peterborough, England prior to (I assume) the birth of there first child Edna Eva DRIVER born on 25 November 1914 in Edmonton, Alberta. There second child, my father (William DRIVER) was born 9 Sept, 1916 in Edmonton. What I need help with is: 1. How do I locate a Marriage Certificate for them? I do not have a marriage date or exact location. 2. How do I find the ship that they emigrated on? Lily may have came with here parents and William came later following his sweet heart, so I am told. 3. How do I obtain birth certificates for there children born in Edmonton? 4. How can I determine if she came to Canada with her parents and brothers and sisters or came alone? If she came with her brothers and sisters then there is a good chance that I will have living relatives still in Canada. She may have been one of 10 children. I know this is a lot to ask but I would appreciate any and all help on this. As I am not a Canadian citizen this research would have to be done via e-mail or snail mail. I thank you in advance for any assistance, Dick Driver rldriver@imajis.com PS. Yes I would be happy to pay for some research.

Anderson (Thomas) Edmonton, 1880s+; Many thanks to the research group of the AGS Edmonton branch for helping reunite the Canadian, English and Australian branches of the Anderson family. Some old letters in a trunk owned by an elderly cousin in England lead me to search for Canadian relations whose existance I was unaware of to that point. A query on this page was answered by an AGS researcher and the wealth of information she provided then lead, via a second Canadian web site, to me being contacted by a relation in Calgary who never knew of the Australian Andersons! We are now planning a reunion in Calgary! It should be quite an event as we have more than 100 years to catch up on! Thank you so much for your help. If any other descendants of Thomas and Adelaide Anderson read this, please contact me.

John worked the passenger line for the CN. John had a son named John (with a wooden foot/leg?) and a daughter Kathleen who was a nurse in Edmonton. If there’s anyone that remembers this family I’d really like to hear from them as they might also have the name of the young lady that my dad was dating while he was in the Edmonton area.

WATSON, Louis b. 1847 – 1933. He is my gggrandfather, I just found out his real name. When he married my gggrandmother (Genevieve Batoche), he used the name “Norwest”. I now know why..he had several wives. Anyways what I would like to know is I don’t have his mother or fathers name. Among some papers I have uncovered through my search is that Louis Watson grew up in Fort Macleod,Ab. He only describes his parents as an English father and a French mother that had travelled from Eastern Canada to Alberta, he does not name them. I would like to have the names of his parents, I hope someone can help me to finish off my incomplete family tree!

LEE CALGARY ca 1901 Thank you for the 1901 census information which shows TSC Lee (42)in Calgary. Family folklore says he migrated as a boy but lost his land gambling and returned to England where he died in the 1920s. His full name was Thomas Somerville Charteris Lee and I have only found this one reference. Although someone from Calgary contacted his brother in 1958. He could not decipher the writing and lost the letter before showing it to anyone else. This suggests that TSC Lee may have had a family still in Canada. Can anyone help?

STATHAM, EDMONTON, 1914 I am searching for information about my great grandmother, Rosa Augusta Statham (maiden name Chiddy) who was born in England in April 1851. She married in Toronto in Apr 1872 and then moved back to England. I haven’t been able to find a record of her death. There is a slim possibility, based on a comment made by my mother many years ago, that she died in BC or Alberta while visiting family (three of her children, plus a couple of Chiddy nephews, had emigrated). I found an entry in the Beechmount Cemetery records for a Rosa Statham who died on Dec 12, 1914. I called the helpful folks at the Municipal Cemeteries office, but the only additional information they had was the name of the funeral director. I called the funeral director, but their records only go back to 1940. Staff at the library looked for an obituary for me but couldn’t find one. There don’t seem to be any Stathams at all in the 1901 Census, and no other records of Stathams being buried in Edmonton cemeteries. Has anyone come across any Stathams? Or Chiddys? Both names are uncommon, so I suspect that the Rosa who died in 1914 is a relative of some sort, even if she isn’t my great grandmother.

SMITH, GALAHAD, 1975-1976 – I am looking for any available information on EVA MAUDE SMITH, spouse of Alfred Smith, who is believed to have lived in the area of Galahad, Alberta prior to her death. I have conflicting information on her date of death and the location at death – one source has it in November, 1976, in Galahad AB, while another source believes it was November 25, 1975 in Stony Plain, AB. She was said to be over 100 years of age at her death. She was originally born in NB, and moved to Alberta after the death of her first husband, named Ernest L. Grant, where at the time they were living in Massachusetts. Any information will be appreciated ! Thank you! Doug Joudrey, Calgary

MURDOCH/STEVENS, Edmonton, Am looking for information/descendants on Grace Vivian Stevens Murdoch, and Alastair Murdoch. They were married in December, 1914 in Elkins, Randolph Co., WV, USA and lived in Edmonton, AB, CA. According to the wedding announcement, Mr. Murdoch was in the real estate business for the Glasgow & Canadian Land Company and took his bride to live in Edmonton. I posted a note on the afhs.ab.ca/registry and have received an e-mail that they are buried in Mt.Pleasant Cemetery in South Edmonton, according to the surname list. She died May 18, 1972 and he died May 6, 1978. Any information that can be obtained and forwarded would be most greatly appreciated — obituaries, etc. that would help us to make a Canadian connection with descendants of Grace and Alastair Murdoch. Please e-mail with any comments, suggestions or fees for your help in this request. Thank you.

BOYD, Penhold, 1899-1903. My BOYD family resided in the little hamlet of Penhold (near Red Deer) in it’s early days. The BOYD family consisted of David and Minnie and their children: John James, William Henry, Grace, Blanche, and Charles Theodore. The two older children, John and William, attended the Penhold school. I’m interested in any information on the Penhold area between 1899-1903 and would like to know if any school photos or other photos exist for this time period.

White, Viking area, 1945? Looking for an Uncle, who may not know he has other family. He was a twin & was given up for adoption under unusual circumstances. DOB approx 1945. He was given to another family who’s child possibly died at birth. We assume this was a hospital birth, no formal adoption papers were signed. This was in the Viking area. Both parents then went home with a baby boy. He has 11 brothers & sisters who would like to meet him, and at least 36 nieces & nephews and numerous “great” nieces & nephews. We would like to hear from someone who could help us find him.
